The Polish planes are PZL P.11s, the fighter fielded by the Polish Air Force in WWII that was heralded as one of the advanced planes in the world upon its initial design in the early 1930s. It was an open-cockpit monoplane with all-metal frame and covering, one of the first of its kind. By the time the Germans invaded, however, it was woefully outclassed by closed-cockpit planes like the Messerschmitt BF-109s. There is currently only one surviving PZL P.11 on display at the Polish Aviation Museum in Krakow.
