The Brothers Grimm first published their assembled Kinder- und Hausmärchen (Children and House Stories) in December of 1812, but the book went through a number of edits (seven within their lifetime, and many others since then). They were quickly co-opted by the Nazis as propaganda and examples of “folkish” literature.
